Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sky Force’ Soars at Box Office Amid Call for Bollywood Unity
The action thriller garners impressive opening weekend earnings as actor advocates for greater industry collaboration.
Akshay Kumar’s latest action thriller, Sky Force, premiered in theaters on January 24, 2025, and has achieved remarkable box office success. The film amassed ₹12.25 crore on its opening day, followed by a significant 80% increase on Saturday with earnings of ₹22 crore, and an additional ₹27.50 crore on Sunday, culminating in a robust opening weekend total of ₹61.75 crore.
In a recent promotional interview with IMDb, Kumar addressed a concern regarding the Hindi film industry. When co-star Veer Pahariya inquired about potential changes he would like to see in Bollywood, Kumar expressed a desire for enhanced unity within the industry. He noted that, despite functioning as a family, there is a tendency for individuals to work in isolation. Kumar emphasized the importance of collective support, celebrating each other’s successes, and collaboratively addressing challenges to create a positive impact on the industry.
Sky Force narrates the story of India’s inaugural airstrike during the 1965 war with Pakistan, focusing on the Indian Air Force’s attack on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase. The film features Kumar as Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja, alongside Veer Pahariya as T. Krishna Vijaya, Sara Ali Khan as Geeta Vijaya, Nimrat Kaur as Preeti Ahuja, and Sharad Kelkar as Ahmed Hussain.
Kumar’s sentiments regarding industry unity echo those of fellow actor Ajay Devgn, who recently highlighted the cohesive nature of the South Indian film industries in contrast to Bollywood. Devgn expressed admiration for the solidarity among Southern actors and expressed a desire for similar unity within the Hindi film sector.
As Sky Force continues its successful theatrical run, Kumar’s advocacy for a more united Bollywood has sparked discussions about fostering collaboration and mutual support within the industry.
