Ranbir Kapoor Confirms Animal Park to Go on Floors in 2027
The actor reveals the blockbuster Animal follow-up is still years away, teases a trilogy plan, and confirms his challenging dual role in the next chapter.

Ranbir Kapoor has finally put speculation to rest regarding the much-awaited sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Animal. The actor has confirmed that Animal Park will not go on floors anytime soon, as director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is currently fully committed to his next ambitious project, Spirit, which stars Prabhas in the lead. According to Ranbir, only after Spirit is completed will the filmmaker move on to the sequel, with production tentatively scheduled for 2027.
Speaking in a recent international interview, Ranbir clarified that Animal Park is still in the planning phase and far from production. He shared that Vanga is presently busy shaping Spirit, and once that film wraps, the team will begin preparations for the sequel. The actor acknowledged that the wait may feel long for fans, but assured that the makers want to take the time needed to scale the project properly.
Interestingly, Ranbir also revealed that the Animal franchise is being designed as a three-part saga. While Animal Park will serve as the second chapter, the director has already been discussing ideas for how the story could eventually conclude in a third instalment. Although the script is not yet locked, creative discussions have been ongoing since the first film released.
One of the most exciting revelations is that Ranbir will be seen playing two characters in Animal Park — both the protagonist and the antagonist. The actor explained that the antagonist undergoes plastic surgery and ends up resembling the main character, effectively becoming his body double. This narrative twist is expected to introduce intense psychological drama and layered conflict, giving Ranbir an opportunity to explore two sharply contrasting personalities within the same film.
Calling the project creatively thrilling, Ranbir praised Vanga’s originality and shared that they have been exchanging ideas since the first film. He added that stepping into a dual role is a rare challenge for any actor and makes the sequel even more exciting for him personally.
The delay largely stems from Vanga’s packed schedule. Spirit, a large-scale pan-Indian action drama headlined by Prabhas, is being mounted as a massive theatrical event and is expected to occupy the director for the next few years. Industry chatter suggests that both Spirit and Animal Park will define Vanga’s filmmaking slate well into the late 2020s.
For fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter of Animal, the update brings clarity: while the sequel is very much happening, patience will be required. With a trilogy vision, a complex dual role, and high production ambitions, Animal Park is shaping up to be a major cinematic event — just not anytime soon.
