Hera Pheri 3: Bollywood’s Cult Comedy Franchise Finally Moves Closer to Its Big Return

After years of delays, legal hurdles and casting uncertainty, the iconic trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal are set to reunite as the makers push forward with the much-awaited third installment — with bigger franchise plans also in the pipeline.

Hera Pheri continues to enjoy legendary status in Bollywood, remaining one of the most loved comedy franchises even decades after its release. The original 2000 film and its 2006 sequel became cult classics thanks to their sharp humor, memorable dialogues and the unbeatable chemistry between Akshay Kumar’s street-smart Raju, Suniel Shetty’s sincere Shyam and Paresh Rawal’s unforgettable Baburao Ganpatrao Apte. Even today, scenes and punchlines from the films dominate memes, reels and pop-culture conversations, proving their timeless appeal.

After nearly twenty years of speculation, the third installment has finally gained momentum. Paresh Rawal recently confirmed that Hera Pheri 3 will definitely happen, adding that the franchise would feel incomplete without Baburao — a character that has become synonymous with Indian comedy. His statement reassured fans after months of uncertainty surrounding the film’s future.

The journey of Hera Pheri 3 has been anything but smooth. Over the years, the project faced multiple delays due to scheduling conflicts, creative differences and temporary cast exits. At one point, Rawal’s reported departure even triggered legal discussions between the production team and the actors involved, sparking fears that the film might be shelved altogether. However, those issues have now been resolved, and the original trio has reunited for the project.

Director Priyadarshan, who helmed the first film, is also back on board, further strengthening audience confidence in the sequel’s tone and authenticity. Industry reports suggest that filming has already begun and the makers are targeting completion by mid-2026, with a possible theatrical release in 2027, although an official date has not yet been announced.

Interestingly, the future of Hera Pheri may extend beyond just one sequel. Producer Firoz Nadiadwala has hinted at building a larger “family entertainment universe,” which could include new sequels and prequels not only for Hera Pheri but also for other popular comedy franchises. The idea is to blend nostalgia with fresh storytelling while keeping the core humor intact.

With the original cast reunited and production finally gaining traction, Hera Pheri 3 is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited Bollywood releases in the coming years. For fans who grew up laughing at Raju’s schemes, Shyam’s innocence and Baburao’s priceless expressions, the return of this iconic trio promises another dose of chaos, comedy and classic entertainment.
