Apple Original Films Secures Jennifer Lawrence-Led Murder Mystery ‘The Wives’

Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence to star and produce in a new film inspired by the Real Housewives reality franchise

In a highly competitive acquisition, Apple Original Films has secured “The Wives,” a murder mystery film featuring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, who will also serve as a producer. The film will be a collaboration between Apple Studio and A24, with additional production by Justine Ciarrocchi for Lawrence’s Excellent Cadaver, and Jeremy O. Harris and Josh Godfrey for bb².

While specific plot details remain undisclosed, sources indicate that the film draws inspiration from the Real Housewives reality franchise. The screenplay will be crafted by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley, known for “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical.”

Lawrence, fresh off her roles in Sony’s acclaimed comedy “No Hard Feelings” and Apple TV+’s drama “Causeway,” will add this project to her diverse portfolio. She recently produced the documentary “Bread & Roses,” which Apple acquired in April, highlighting the experiences of Afghan women under Taliban rule.

Jeremy O. Harris, best known for his Tony-nominated play “Slave Play,” joins the production team. Harris was recently nominated for Tony Awards for producing “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window” and “Ain’t No Mo’.” He also debuted the documentary “Slave Play. Not A Movie. A Play” on HBO and is currently developing series for FX, HBO, and Legendary.

Apple’s upcoming releases include “Fly Me to the Moon” starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, Jon Watts’ thriller “Wolfs” with George Clooney and Brad Pitt, Doug Liman’s heist film “The Instigators” starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, Steve McQueen’s “Blitz,” and Joseph Kosinski’s Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, set for release in June 2025.
