His journey soon intertwines with Harsha Mehra, a shrewd stock market player who ropes him into a web of illegal money laundering and fraud.
As the money flows in, Baskhar’s newfound wealth leads him on a turbulent path that catches the eye of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The resulting scrutiny not only endangers his freedom but also strains his marriage with his wife, portrayed by Meenakshi Chaudhary. The film unravels as Baskhar tries to extricate himself from this dangerous underworld – but the question remains: will he succeed, or will he fall victim to the very trap he set for himself?
Performance & Review
Lucky Baskhar shines due to its grounded storytelling and powerful performances. Dulquer Salmaan excels as Baskhar, capturing both the ambition and vulnerability of a man led astray by greed. His transformation from a modest bank employee to a criminal mastermind is executed with remarkable depth. Meenakshi Chaudhary delivers a strong performance as Baskhar’s supportive yet strained wife, embodying the emotional toll his choices take on their relationship.
The film’s greatest strength is its restraint, avoiding unnecessary melodrama and instead focusing on the stark reality of Baskhar’s descent into crime. Banking and stock market jargon is woven in seamlessly, making complex terms accessible and engaging for the audience. The screenplay, particularly in the first half, meticulously portrays the events that lure Baskhar into the underworld, drawing a strong parallel to real-life stock market scandals and offering a nod to the infamous Harshad Mehta scam.
Director Venky Atluri does an excellent job of maintaining clarity amidst the film’s layered storyline. The pacing keeps the viewer hooked, and the blend of crime, drama, and high-stakes finance is handled deftly, ensuring that the narrative remains compelling without becoming overly complicated.
