Rating: 3/5

Plot Overview:

Set against the backdrop of British colonial rule, “Azaad” revolves around Govind (Amaan Devgan), a young man employed by Rai Bahadur (Piyush Mishra), a local zamindar aligned with the British. The narrative unfolds when Govind becomes captivated by Azaad, the prized stallion of the charismatic leader Vikram Singh (Ajay Devgan). Following Vikram’s demise, Govind inherits the responsibility of caring for Azaad, leading to a clash with Rai Bahadur’s men who demand the horse’s surrender, triggering a dramatic horse-riding challenge during the Ardh Kumbh Mela.

Performance & Review:

“Azaad” presents an average plot that manages to engage audiences primarily through Ajay Devgan’s compelling presence in the first half. However, the film loses some of its allure in the latter part. Abhishek Kapoor’s direction shines through in portraying Azaad, the horse, as a standout character. Debutants Rasha and Amaan deliver promising performances, though there’s room for improvement, especially in emotional depth for Rasha and acting finesse for Amaan. Ajay Devgan excels as Vikram Singh, portraying the rebel leader with conviction, yet the film falters in fully exploring the brutality of British rule.

Final Verdict:

Overall, “Azaad” offers a decent cinematic experience, bolstered by Ajay Devgan’s stellar performance. For enthusiasts of period dramas set during British rule, “Azaad” is worth a watch.
