Zendaya Opens Up About Nerves and Excitement Ahead of “Challengers” Release

The Emmy-winning actress shares candid moments from behind the scenes and discusses her collaboration with Luca Guadagnino

Zendaya recently took to Instagram to offer fans a glimpse behind the curtain as she gears up for the release of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film, “Challengers.” In a carousel of photos and videos, the actress, joined by co-stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, shared her mix of nerves and excitement leading up to the much-anticipated debut.

“This is my first time leading a film in this way, so ya girl’s been nervous,” Zendaya captioned the Instagram post, expressing gratitude for the support and encouragement she’s received. “I’m so honored that I get to do this beside these incredibly talented, brilliant (and hilarious) people.”

The carousel of clips showcased candid moments from the set, including Zendaya’s workout routines and tennis training, O’Connor’s playful antics with a water bottle, and Faist’s transformations in hair and makeup. The final video playfully referenced a viral scene from the trailer, featuring O’Connor and Faist kissing a tennis racquet adorned with Zendaya’s wig.

Known for her standout performances in projects like “Euphoria” and “Dune,” Zendaya shared insights into her collaboration with Guadagnino. Prior to filming “Challengers,” she sought advice from co-star Timothée Chalamet, who had previously worked with the acclaimed director.

“He said wonderful things,” Zendaya revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Luca is brilliant, and I’ve wanted to work with him for a very long time.” Describing her admiration for Guadagnino’s vision and the script’s depth, Zendaya expressed confidence in the project from its inception.

“Challengers,” a film in which Zendaya also serves as a producer, follows the journey of her character, Tashi, a tennis pro-turned-coach, as she navigates the complexities of relationships and competition. Set against the backdrop of the tennis world, the story explores themes of ambition, loyalty, and the pursuit of greatness.
