Yash Embarks on ‘Ramayana’ Journey as Ravana, Begins Filming After Seeking Divine Blessings

The ‘KGF’ star, co-producing Nitesh Tiwari’s epic adaptation alongside Namit Malhotra, initiates his role as Ravana with prayers at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple; ‘Ramayana’ Part 1 set for Diwali 2026 release.

Kannada superstar Yash has commenced his portrayal of Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious cinematic adaptation of the ‘Ramayana’. Prior to beginning the shoot, Yash visited the sacred Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, to seek blessings. Draped in a grey shawl, he participated in the revered Bhasma Aarti ceremony, accompanied by temple priests, underscoring his devotion to Lord Shiva. ​

In an earlier interview, Yash expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor. There’s vast scope to present it in a different way.”

‘Ramayana’ is envisioned as a two-part epic, with Part 1 scheduled for release on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 following in Diwali 2027. The film boasts a stellar cast, including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita.

Co-produced by Yash’s Monster Mind Creations and Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, the project is poised to be one of India’s most expensive films, with a reported budget of ₹835 crore (approximately $96 million). The music composition is a collaboration between A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, marking Zimmer’s debut in Indian cinema.

With filming underway, audiences eagerly await this grand retelling of the ‘Ramayana’, promising a blend of devotion, drama, and cinematic excellence.
