Universal Pictures Working On ‘Murder, She Wrote’ Movie with ‘Dumb Money’ Writers and Amy Pascal Producing

Universal Pictures is in the early stages of bringing the beloved mystery series “Murder, She Wrote” to the big screen, and they’ve enlisted the talents of writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, known for their work on “Dumb Money.” Amy Pascal is set to produce the project, according to confirmed reports from Variety.

Blum and Angelo were already on board the project before the writers’ strike, but their work on the screenplay is currently on hold until an agreement is reached between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. This eagerly anticipated “Murder, She Wrote” film is next on the writers’ agenda, as shared by representatives for Blum and Angelo with Variety.

The original “Murder, She Wrote” series famously starred Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, a mystery writer and amateur detective who skillfully solved murders in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine. The crime drama series enjoyed a successful 12-season run on CBS from 1984 to 1996. Despite receiving Emmy nominations for every season, Angela Lansbury never secured the coveted award.

The iconic series was created by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson, and William Link, with Universal Television handling production duties throughout its long tenure.

Blum and Angelo are no strangers to collaborating, having previously co-written the screenplay for the biographical dramedy “Dumb Money.” The star-studded cast of “Dumb Money” includes Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Pete Davidson, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Dane DeHaan, and Vincent D’Onofrio. The film, directed by Craig Gillespie, is slated for a limited theater release on September 15 and is based on Ben Mezrich’s 2021 book “The Antisocial Network,” recounting the true story of a group of investors involved in the GameStop short squeeze.
