Unavoidable Clash: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again Compete for Box Office Glory
Producer Bhushan Kumar Shares the Backstory Behind the Release Conflict and Vidya Balan’s Return to the Series
In a festive face-off, Bollywood saw two massive releases this Diwali—Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again and Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. According to producer Bhushan Kumar, both production teams made efforts to avoid a clash, but prior commitments to streaming platforms and thematic choices led both films to launch on the same holiday.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kumar explained that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 had an existing deal with an OTT platform, setting the Diwali release in stone. Similarly, Singham Again was designed with a Ramayana-inspired storyline, making Diwali a fitting backdrop. Both sides, Kumar shared, genuinely tried to sidestep the conflict but were unable to due to these constraints. “We discussed ways to avoid the clash,” Kumar said. “They tried, we tried, but due to commitments, it wasn’t possible.”
Kumar also reflected on Vidya Balan’s initial absence from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Vidya, who played a pivotal role in the original film, opted out of the sequel as she was uncertain how her character would evolve. However, after watching the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, she expressed her appreciation to Kumar, leading to her return for the upcoming third installment.
Now, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, directed by Anees Bazmee, will see Vidya Balan back alongside a talented cast including Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, and Rajpal Yadav, with fans eagerly awaiting this supernatural reunion.
