Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Returns to Theaters in July 2026: New Era Begins After Avengers: Doomsday

Production Kicks Off in 2025 Under Director Destin Daniel Cretton, with Script Adjustments Underway and MJ’s Return Still Uncertain

Tom Holland will once again don the Spidey suit, with the next Spider-Man movie scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2026. The untitled Columbia Pictures project will arrive just two months after Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to release on May 1, 2026. This timeline mirrors the release strategy of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which premiered shortly after Avengers: Endgame and grossed over $1 billion at the global box office.

Holland recently confirmed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that production on his fourth standalone Spider-Man film will kick off in mid-2025.

“Next summer, we start shooting. Everything’s good to go — we’re nearly there,” Holland said enthusiastically. “Super exciting. I can’t wait!”

In a separate conversation on the Rich Roll Podcast, Holland mentioned that while the script is still being refined, progress is promising.

“It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job,” he shared.

Holland acknowledged the challenges of aligning individual films with Marvel’s larger interconnected universe.

“With Marvel, your film is a small cog in a large machine. That machine has to keep running, and everything needs to fit into the timeline just right. It’s a tall order, but we’ve got the right team to make it happen.”

While it remains uncertain whether Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, this upcoming film will mark a transition in the Spider-Man franchise. Destin Daniel Cretton, known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will helm the new movie, taking over from Jon Watts, who directed Holland’s previous three outings: Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019), and No Way Home (2021).

Cretton, whose credits also include Short Term 12 and Just Mercy, initially joined Marvel to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before stepping away from that project in 2023. The movie was later reworked into Avengers: Doomsday, but Cretton remains active in the Marvel universe, developing both Wonder Man and a sequel to Shang-Chi. For now, however, the focus is squarely on delivering Spider-Man 4.

The partnership between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, which co-own the Spider-Man character, has faced some turbulence in the past. In 2019, negotiations temporarily stalled, casting doubt over Spider-Man’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the two studios struck a new deal, paving the way for No Way Home, which thrilled audiences by uniting previous Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield alongside Holland.

With the fourth film on the way and Marvel’s post-Avengers roadmap becoming clearer, fans can expect another thrilling chapter in the Spider-Man saga—and perhaps even more surprises lurking around the corner.
