Tom Brady Reflects on Netflix Roast: “A Parenting Mistake That Hurt My Kids”

While the NFL legend embraced the humor directed at himself, he now regrets the impact of the roast’s jokes about his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and their children, describing the aftermath as a “stake through the heart.”

The roast, which aired live on May 5, 2024, featured a lineup of comedians and celebrities, including host Kevin Hart, Jeff Ross, Nikki Glaser, and appearances by Kim Kardashian and Bill Belichick. While the event was a comedic spectacle, some jokes touched on sensitive topics like Brady’s divorce and Bündchen’s new relationship, leading to discomfort among his family members.

Comedian Nikki Glaser, who delivered some of the night’s most talked-about jokes, later acknowledged the potential impact on Brady’s family. “I feel maybe he didn’t consider the backlash from his family and how it would affect them, and I do understand that,” she said in an interview. “But there’s a part of me that thinks that Tom Brady, especially given his career and how much people love him, nobody has ever said a bad thing to him in the past 30 years. So he didn’t know that anyone was capable of going there.”

Despite the regrets, Brady views the experience as a learning opportunity. “There’s some things as a parent you f— up and you don’t realize until after,” he admitted. “They were just like, ‘Why did you do that?'” He emphasized the importance of being present and supportive as a parent, acknowledging that mistakes can become valuable lessons.

The roast garnered significant attention, amassing nearly 14 million viewers in its first week on Netflix. While it was a milestone in comedy for some, for Brady, it served as a poignant reminder of the delicate balance between public persona and private life.
