The Accountant 3: Director Gavin O’Connor Hints at Anna Kendrick’s Return
With The Accountant 2 just released, discussions about a third installment are already heating up—and this time, love might finally be on the horizon for Ben Affleck’s character.

Even though The Accountant 2 has just hit theaters, director Gavin O’Connor is already setting the stage for a potential third chapter. In a recent joint interview with The New York Times alongside the film’s lead, Ben Affleck, O’Connor shared his hopes for the next movie—and they include the return of Anna Kendrick’s character, Dana.
Kendrick, who portrayed Christian Wolff’s (Affleck) love interest in the 2016 original, was noticeably absent from the sequel. However, O’Connor revealed that if a third film moves forward, he’d like to revisit Christian and Dana’s relationship. “One thing we’ve talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves,” he said.
When asked if a third film was in the works, Affleck mentioned he was waiting for the right script. “I want to ask Bill Dubuque [screenwriter] and Gavin. I’m just waiting for another great script,” he noted.

O’Connor also reassured fans that Kendrick is on board. After Affleck jokingly wondered if Kendrick would still be interested, O’Connor replied, “Actually, Ben, she and I have been texting. She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want.”
While The Accountant 2 focused primarily on Christian’s complex relationship with his brother Braxton, played by Jon Bernthal, O’Connor clarified that Kendrick’s absence was intentional. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he explained, “People have asked about Anna Kendrick’s [absence], but she was never intended to be in the second movie. It was always about bringing the brothers together so they can try to fix things with each other.”
O’Connor emphasized that the heart of the sequel was about human connection—something both brothers were desperately seeking. “These are two guys that are searching for human connection and love, which we can all relate to. So I love the idea of exploring stories of brothers,” he said.
Now, with the door wide open for The Accountant 3, fans have a new reason to be excited: the possible reunion of Christian and Dana on the big screen.
