Sydney Sweeney to Star in and Produce ‘I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl’ for Warner Bros.

Adaptation of Reddit Short Story Enlists Oscar-Winning Screenwriter Eric Roth

Warner Bros. has announced a new psychological thriller, ‘I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl,’ with Sydney Sweeney set to both star in and produce the film through her company, Fifty-Fifty Films. The movie is an adaptation of a popular Reddit short story by Joe Cote, centering on a drifter who impersonates a family’s missing daughter, only to find herself entangled in unforeseen dangers.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, known for his work on ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Dune,’ has been tapped to adapt the story for the screen. Producers attached to the project include Roy Lee of Vertigo, Steven Schneider, Trevor Engelson, and Aaron Folbe from Underground.

Sweeney continues to expand her role in the industry, taking on significant behind-the-scenes responsibilities in addition to her on-screen performances. She recently served as an executive producer on Sony’s romantic comedy ‘Anyone But You,’ which achieved a global box office gross of $220.3 million. She also played a key role in bringing the horror film ‘Immaculate’ to fruition, which premiered at SXSW and was later released by Neon.

Looking ahead, Sweeney is set to star in and executive produce ‘The Housemaid,’ directed by Paul Feig, alongside Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. The thriller, scheduled for a Christmas Day release, follows Millie (Sweeney), who becomes a live-in maid for a wealthy couple, only to uncover dark secrets within the household.

Additionally, Sweeney is attached to portray actress Kim Novak in ‘Scandalous!,’ marking Colman Domingo’s directorial debut. The film explores Novak’s secret romance with singer and actor Sammy Davis Jr. in 1957. Sweeney is also set to produce and star in David Michôd’s biopic of boxer Christy Martin. Her upcoming projects include ‘Echo Valley’ for Apple, where she will appear alongside Julianne Moore, Kyle MacLachlan, and Domhnall Gleeson.

With ‘I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl,’ Sweeney continues to diversify her portfolio, taking on complex roles and expanding her influence in the film industry.
