Stephen Amell to Star in NBC’s “Suits: LA” Spinoff

Renowned actor Stephen Amell is set to headline NBC’s upcoming legal drama “Suits: LA,” taking on the role of Ted Black, a captivating legal powerhouse whose priorities often lean towards self-interest.
The original series “Suits,” a creation of UCP, graced USA Network screens from 2011 to 2019, captivating audiences over nine seasons with its stellar cast including Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Gina Torres, and Sarah Rafferty. In a resurgence, the show found new life on Netflix in 2023, dominating their charts for weeks and accumulating over 45 billion minutes of streaming on both Netflix and Peacock platforms combined.
NBC recently greenlit a pilot for the spinoff, slated to commence production in Vancouver this March. Helmed by original creator Aaron Korsch, “Suits: LA” will explore a fresh ensemble led by Ted Black, a former New York prosecutor who establishes a prominent law firm in Los Angeles specializing in criminal and entertainment law.
Described in the official synopsis as a man pushed to embrace a role he once disdained, Ted navigates a team of compelling characters who challenge loyalties while blurring the lines between personal and professional lives. As past events resurface, Ted must confront the sacrifices made in abandoning his previous life and loved ones.
Executive producers David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, and Victoria Mahoney are steering the ship, with Mahoney also taking on directing duties for the pilot episode.
Beatrice Springborn, president of Universal International Studios and UCP, emphasized the spinoff’s continuity with the original series, promising the same allure and attractive characters coupled with compelling storytelling and character development.
Stephen Amell, known for his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in The CW’s “Arrow” and its related spinoffs, including “The Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Supergirl,” most recently led Starz’s wrestling drama “Heels” for two seasons from 2021 to 2023. His upcoming projects include Netflix’s “Code: 8 Part II,” where he serves as both actor and producer.
