Starz Pulls the Plug on “Minx” for the Second Time

In a recent development, Starz has decided to cancel the television series “Minx,” marking the second time the show has faced cancellation. Initially, the comedy’s first season aired on Max and was renewed for a second season before being discontinued in a cost-cutting initiative.
Following the cancellation on Max, Starz stepped in and acquired the second season, deciding to air both seasons consecutively. Season 2 premiered on Starz on July 21, and viewers can still access both seasons on the Starz app and platforms.
Despite garnering positive reviews from critics, boasting an impressive 93% average critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes across both seasons, “Minx” struggled to attract a substantial audience. The linear airings of Season 2 on Starz averaged fewer than 100,000 viewers per episode, and unfortunately, there is no public data available regarding streaming viewership for the series.
Set in 1970s Los Angeles, “Minx” revolved around Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), an earnest young feminist collaborating with a low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to establish the first erotic magazine for women. The ensemble cast featured Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya, with Elizabeth Perkins joining the second season as the recurring character Constance.
Created by Ellen Rapoport, who also served as the showrunner and executive producer, “Minx” had executive producers Paul Feig and Dan Magnante from Feigco Entertainment. Ben Karlin and Rachel Lee Goldenberg also took on executive producing roles, with Goldenberg directing the pilot. Jake Johnson served as a co-executive producer, and Lionsgate Television produced the series.
