Spotify Ends Deal With Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Swedish audio streaming and media services provider Spotify ends the podcast deal with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

On June 15, 2023, in a joint statement, representatives for Spotify and Archewell announced that the two have mutually agreed to conclude the deal and are proud of the podcast hosted by the Duchess of Sussex, “Archetypes,” that marks the first and only series of Archewell’s podcast deal with Spotify.

“Archetypes” debuted in August of last year, and its 12-episode first season had guests like Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling, Constance Wu, Paris Hilton, Issa Rae, and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.

Last year’s Spotify Wrapped list revealed that the podcast series had the highest first-week streams at launch for a podcast in the United States. The podcast premiered as part of Archewell’s multiyear exclusive deal with Spotify, which was first announced in late 2020.

The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that according to a Spotify spokesperson, Archewell still owns the IP rights to the “Archetypes” podcast, and the released episodes of the series will be available on Spotify. However, it’s not immediately known if Archewell intends to release those episodes on other major podcast platforms.
