Sophie Turner Poised to Become Lara Croft in Amazon’s Epic Tomb Raider Series
Game of Thrones star in talks to lead Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s high-profile adaptation of the iconic video game franchise.
Sophie Turner is reportedly in final negotiations to step into the boots of Lara Croft for Prime Video’s ambitious Tomb Raider series, helmed by Emmy-winning Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, according to sources at Deadline. Amazon MGM Studios has yet to comment on the casting news.
Turner, best known for her Emmy-nominated role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, was one of several actresses who tested for the part, previously played in films by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. This series promises a fresh, globe-trotting take on the beloved character, which Amazon MGM head Jennifer Salke described as “epic” when announcing the project earlier this year.
Waller-Bridge, who serves as the series’ writer and executive producer, has expressed her passion for the franchise, stating, “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
Produced by Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, the series boasts an impressive roster of executive producers, including Jenny Robins (Wells Street Productions), Dmitri M. Johnson (dj2 Entertainment), and rights holders Legendary Television. Amanda Greenblatt and Ryan Andolina will serve as consulting producers under their Star Party banner.
Turner is no stranger to high-profile roles, currently starring in the British crime drama Joan and soon appearing in Prime Video’s upcoming series Haven. If confirmed, her turn as Lara Croft could mark a bold new chapter for the iconic treasure hunter—and for Turner herself.
