Sony Reschedules Major Releases: ‘Caught Stealing’ Set for August 2025, ‘Insidious 6’ Pushed to 2026
Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller ‘Caught Stealing’ starring Austin Butler takes over the August 29, 2025 slot, while the sixth installment of the ‘Insidious’ franchise is delayed to August 21, 2026.

Sony Pictures has announced significant adjustments to its upcoming release schedule. Darren Aronofsky’s latest film, ‘Caught Stealing’, featuring Austin Butler, is now slated for a theatrical release on August 29, 2025. The movie, adapted from Charlie Huston’s novels, follows Hank Thompson, a former baseball player who becomes entangled in New York City’s 1990s criminal underworld. The ensemble cast includes Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Matt Smith, and Bad Bunny.
In a related move, the untitled sixth installment of the ‘Insidious’ franchise has been postponed. Originally scheduled for August 29, 2025, the release has been rescheduled to August 21, 2026. The ‘Insidious’ series, which began in 2010 under the direction of James Wan, centers on a family confronting malevolent supernatural forces. The most recent entry, ‘Insidious: The Red Door’ (2023), marked Patrick Wilson’s directorial debut and garnered $189 million globally.

Additionally, Sony has removed a placeholder date for an untitled Marvel project that was initially set for June 27, 2025. This decision follows the underwhelming performances of 2024 releases ‘Madame Web’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter’, leading to uncertainties regarding the studio’s future Marvel endeavors.
Austin Butler’s upcoming projects also include Ari Aster’s ‘Eddington’, co-starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone. Darren Aronofsky’s most recent directorial effort was the 2022 drama ‘The Whale’, which earned two Oscars, including Best Actor for Brendan Fraser. Notably, Fraser’s competitors in that category included Butler for his role in ‘Elvis’.
