Shruti Haasan’s International Debut ‘The Eye’ Explores Grief and the Supernatural
The psychological thriller, directed by Daphne Schmon, premieres in India at the 5th Wench Film Festival.

Shruti Haasan is set to make her international debut in the British psychological thriller *The Eye*, directed by Daphne Schmon. In the film, Haasan portrays Diana, a woman grappling with the mysterious death of her husband, Felix, played by Mark Rowley. Seeking closure, Diana travels to a remote island to scatter Felix’s ashes, where she becomes entangled in the ancient “Evil Eye” ritual—a ceremony that promises to resurrect the dead but demands a harrowing sacrifice.
Filmed on location in Athens and Corfu, *The Eye* captures the haunting beauty of Greece, enhancing its eerie and suspenseful atmosphere. The film has garnered positive reviews at the London Independent Film Festival and the Greek International Film Festival for its unique storyline and Haasan’s compelling performance. It is slated to premiere in India as the opening feature at the 5th Wench Film Festival in Mumbai, which focuses on horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Haasan stated, “Psychological thrillers have always been a genre that fascinates me. To be part of a story that dives deep into human emotions, grief, and the supernatural is incredibly exciting.” She also highlighted the significance of the film’s all-women-led production team, aligning with her commitment to supporting women in the film industry.
Director Daphne Schmon described *The Eye* as “both a love letter to Corfu, the island where my family is from, and an exploration of the dark psychological impulses surrounding grief.” She praised Haasan’s portrayal of Diana, noting her ability to authentically convey the character’s complex emotions.
In addition to *The Eye*, Haasan has an impressive lineup of upcoming projects in Indian cinema. She is set to appear in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s *Coolie*, is in talks to reprise her role in Prashanth Neel’s *Salaar Part 2: Shouryanga Parvam*, and will co-star with Vijay Sethupathi in *The Train*. Haasan is also part of H. Vinoth’s *Jana Nayagan*, featuring Thalapathy Vijay.
