Sandeep Singh Set to Helm Epic Biopic on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Renowned filmmaker Sandeep Singh, known for producing acclaimed movies like “Mary Kom” (2014), “Aligarh” (2015), and “Jhund” (2022), is stepping into the director’s chair for his upcoming project, “The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.”
The film will chronicle the life of Shivaji Bhonsle, the revered 17th-century Indian ruler who founded the Maratha empire amidst a backdrop of Muslim monarch rule. Singh, whose directorial debut was the transgender-themed “Safed” (2023), marks this biopic as his first theatrical feature.
Shivaji, a Hindu nationalist hero, gained prominence during India’s independence movement for his resilience against religious persecution. Today, he remains a symbolic figure for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena, particularly in Maharashtra, his home state.
Singh’s association with political biopics includes “PM Narendra Modi” (2019) and “Main Atal Hoon,” portraying BJP’s prominent leaders. The launch of “The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” was officiated by Nitin Gadkari, a significant BJP figure.
The film, produced by Immerso Studio, K Kamal, and Legend Studios, boasts a substantial budget and will be released in multiple languages, reflecting Shivaji’s widespread appeal. Notable industry talents, including writer duo Siddharth-Garima, cinematographer Aseem Bajaj, and choreographer Ganesh Hegde, are part of the project, promising a grand cinematic experience.
With casting yet to be unveiled, anticipation mounts for the retelling of Shivaji’s legendary saga, underscoring his enduring legacy in Indian history and culture.
