Salman Khan & Katrina Kaif’s Ek Tha Tiger Poised for Grand Theatre Re-Release

The 2012 spy-thriller that launched YRF’s Spy Universe, Ek Tha Tiger, raked in ₹320 crore worldwide on its original run; re-release date still under wraps.

Thirteen years after it first roared at the box office, Ek Tha Tiger is all set to make a comeback to cinemas. Starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, the blockbuster action-romance is being re-released by Yash Raj Films, though the exact date has not yet been revealed.

When it first released in 2012, Ek Tha Tiger turned into a phenomenon. Directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film grossed ₹320 crore worldwide, including ₹198.78 crore net and ₹263 crore gross in India. Its record-breaking success marked the beginning of what would later be branded the YRF Spy Universe, paving the way for films like Tiger Zinda Hai, War, and Pathaan.

The film’s story follows Indian intelligence officer Tiger (Salman Khan), sent on a mission to Dublin to keep an eye on a professor suspected of leaking nuclear secrets. During his assignment, he falls in love with Zoya (Katrina Kaif), the professor’s caretaker, who carries secrets of her own. Alongside the leads, the film also featured Ranvir Shorey, Girish Karnad, Roshan Seth, and Gavie Chahal.

Ek Tha Tiger also carried another milestone: it was Salman Khan’s first collaboration with Yash Raj Films. For Kabir Khan, it was his third directorial venture under YRF, following Kabul Express (2006) and New York (2009).

Meanwhile, Salman Khan is currently busy with his upcoming project Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, which dramatizes the 2020 India-China clash in the Galwan Valley. He also continues to host Bigg Boss 19 on JioCinema.

The re-release of Ek Tha Tiger is expected to reignite nostalgia for audiences while giving a new generation of fans a chance to experience the film on the big screen once again.
