Despite ‘Dilwale’s’ Mixed Reception, Shetty Affirms Mutual Respect and Clarifies Misconceptions About Their Professional Relationship

In a recent appearance on Komal Nahta’s Game Changers podcast, filmmaker Rohit Shetty addressed longstanding rumors of a fallout with Shah Rukh Khan following their 2015 collaboration, Dilwale. Contrary to speculations, Shetty emphasized that there was no discord between them. “Nahi aisa kuch nahi,” he stated, dismissing the rumors. He further elaborated that after Dilwale, they chose to establish their own production house to independently produce films, ensuring that any financial risks would be their own responsibility.​

Dilwale, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, garnered significant attention upon its release. While the film achieved substantial success overseas, grossing approximately ₹338.75 crore worldwide ​, it underperformed in the domestic market. Shetty acknowledged the film’s shortcomings, attributing them to a deviation from his usual conviction during its making. He admitted that the emphasis on the Shah Rukh-Kajol romantic narrative might not have resonated as intended with the audience.​

Despite the film’s mixed reception, Shetty reiterated the mutual respect he shares with Khan. He also highlighted his close relationships with other industry figures like Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone. Notably, he praised Padukone’s dedication, revealing that she completed the final schedule of Singham Again while four months pregnant, emphasizing the rare and profound bonds formed in the film industry.
