Robert Pattinson in Talks to Portray Villain Scytale in ‘Dune: Messiah’
Actor’s Potential Role Adds Intrigue to Denis Villeneuve’s Final Dune Adaptation

Robert Pattinson is reportedly in discussions to join the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sci-fi film, ‘Dune: Messiah,’ potentially portraying the villainous shapeshifter Scytale. This character, a Face Dancer from the Tleilaxu, plays a pivotal role in Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel, orchestrating a plot to overthrow Paul Atreides, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet.
While no formal offer has been made, Pattinson’s involvement would add to his already busy schedule, which includes starring in the sequel to ‘The Batman’ and appearing in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey.’
Denis Villeneuve, known for attracting top-tier talent, has assembled impressive ensembles for his previous Dune films, featuring actors like Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Jason Momoa, and Josh Brolin. The first installment, released in 2021 during the pandemic, grossed $410 million globally, while 2024’s ‘Dune: Part Two’ amassed $714.6 million worldwide.

Published in 1969, ‘Dune Messiah’ picks up 12 years after the events of ‘Dune,’ with Paul Atreides ruling as Emperor, married to Princess Irulan, and maintaining a relationship with his concubine, Chani. The narrative delves into the complexities of Paul’s reign and the conspiracies that threaten his empire.
Filming for ‘Dune: Messiah’ is expected to commence in the summer of 2025, aiming for a December 18, 2026, release date from Warner Bros. Villeneuve has indicated that this will be his final Dune film before he turns his attention to other projects.
