Rimi Sen: From Bollywood Stardom to Legal Battles and Reflection

The former Bollywood actress opens up about her hiatus from acting and current challenges

Rimi Sen, known for her roles in popular films such as “Hungama,” “Baghban,” “Dhoom,” “Garam Masala,” “Kyon Ki,” and “Golmaal: Fun Unlimited,” has been absent from the big screen since her last major appearance in the 2011 film “Thank You.” Her sudden disappearance from the film industry left many fans wondering about her whereabouts and reasons for stepping back.

In 2015, Rimi Sen participated in the reality show “Bigg Boss 9” and later attempted to join “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9” as a wild card entrant in 2016, though she was not selected. This further fueled speculation about her career choices and absence from the limelight.

Rimi made headlines in 2020 when she was reportedly conned out of Rs 4 crore by a man who promised high-interest returns. She is currently embroiled in legal proceedings against him. “A warrant will be issued against that man for cognisable offence,” she stated regarding the ongoing case.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sen addressed the long-standing question of why she stopped working in movies. “I got tired of doing comedy films. I had only furniture roles in them,” she explained, adding that meaningful roles were rare. “I had a good role in only a few, like ‘Hungama’ and ‘Johnny Gaddaar.’ The latter didn’t work, and that’s the kind of work I wanted to do.”

Despite working with big names like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn in films like “Thank You” and “Golmaal,” Rimi admits she is not in touch with them. “I can’t ask anyone for help. Jab tak gidgidao nahin, help nahin milti hai. Why won’t other people look for their own benefit?” she remarked, highlighting the challenges of seeking support in the industry.

Rimi further elaborated on the high stakes in the film industry, where navigating personal relationships often trumps talent. She confessed, “I didn’t know how to promote myself through PR,” acknowledging a crucial aspect of sustaining a career in Bollywood.

Rimi Sen’s journey reflects the harsh realities of the film industry, where the glamour often overshadows the struggles and personal battles faced by actors behind the scenes.
