Renowned Tamil actor Daniel Balaji breathed his last on Friday night, succumbing to a heart attack at a private hospital in Chennai. The 48-year-old actor, known for his compelling portrayal of antagonists, complained of chest pain on Friday evening and was swiftly rushed to a hospital in Chennai’s Kottivakam. Despite receiving medical attention, he tragically passed away. His mortal remains have been taken to his residence in Purasaiwalkam for the final rites, leaving behind a profound sense of loss in the Tamil film fraternity and among his fans. Many from the industry are expected to pay their respects on March 30.

Daniel Balaji carved a niche for himself with his remarkable performances as a villain on the silver screen. His portrayal of Amudhan in Gautham Menon and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’ remains etched in the annals of Tamil cinema as one of the iconic antagonist roles. Details regarding his cremation are awaited as the industry mourns the loss of a talented artist.

As news of Daniel Balaji’s untimely demise reverberated, his admirers and colleagues took to social media platforms to express their shock and sorrow. Director Mohan Raja paid homage to Balaji, acknowledging him as his inspiration to pursue a career in the film industry.

Balaji’s journey in the entertainment world began as a unit production manager in Kamal Haasan’s ambitious project, ‘Marudhunayagam’. He ventured into television with a memorable role in Radikaa Sarathkumar’s ‘Chithhi’, where he portrayed the character of Daniel, thus adopting the screen name Daniel Balaji.

In 2022, Daniel Balaji made his acting debut in the Tamil film ‘April Madhathil’. However, it was his collaboration with Gautham Menon and his impactful role in ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ alongside Suriya and Jyotika that catapulted him to fame. He continued to impress audiences with his antagonist roles, notably in Vetri Maaran’s ‘Polladhavan’. His association with Gautham Menon continued with ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’, where he showcased his acting prowess as Amudhan once again.

His repertoire includes noteworthy performances in films such as Ajith’s ‘Yennai Arindhaal’, Simbu’s ‘Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada’, Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Bairavaa’, Dhanush’s ‘Vada Chennai’, and Vijay’s ‘Bigil’. His last appearance was in ‘Ariyavan’.
