Renowned Director Karan Johar Unveils Plans for “Student of the Year 3”

Director Karan Johar made waves at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh as he divulged intriguing details about the upcoming installment of his famed franchise, “Student of the Year 3.” During his presentation, he shed light on the involvement of director Reema Maya, recognized for her notable work in the web series realm, particularly acclaimed for her contribution to “Nocturnal Burger.”

Johar, while speaking about his future projects, specifically pointed out Reema Maya’s directorial role in the digital rendition of “Student of the Year.” Emphasizing the importance of allowing emerging filmmakers their creative freedom, he expressed, “Reema Maya will be helming the digital adaptation of Student of the Year. However, it will distinctly reflect her vision and not mine. Stepping into Reema Maya’s realm would only dilute her distinctive voice, akin to an illusion, as her name suggests. My intention was to let her narrative shine through, and she certainly made it her own series.”

Reema Maya, a co-founder of Catnip production company, stands as a testament to versatility in the film industry. Garnering international acclaim as a writer-director, her repertoire boasts an array of awards. Notably, her short films have premiered at prestigious festivals, with “Counterfeit Kunkoo” receiving positive acclaim at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Adding to her accolades, her latest creation, “Nocturnal Burger,” premiered at the Sundance Short Film Program in 2023. Her directorial prowess extends beyond the festival circuit, evident in her work with renowned brands such as Red Bull, boAt, and Netflix. Recognized among Hindustan Times’ 30 under 30 in 2018, Reema Maya continues to redefine storytelling boundaries.

In related news, speculation surrounds the casting for “Student of the Year 3,” with reports indicating Shanaya Kapoor as the lead, as revealed in a previous story by Harpers Bazaar. Kapoor’s anticipated debut in Dharma Productions’ “Bedhadak” alongside Gurfateh Pirzada and Laksh Lalwani appears to have been shelved, followed by a postponement of her screen debut in the Malayalam movie “Vrushabha” starring Mohanlal.
