Radhikka Madan Opens Up on Nepotism in Bollywood: “Outsiders Don’t Get Second Chances”

The actress highlights the challenges faced by outsiders in the film industry, contrasting their struggles with the opportunities given to star kids.

Radhikka Madan, known for her roles in films like Angrezi Medium and Sarfira, has shared her candid thoughts on the prevalence of nepotism in Bollywood. With a career that began in 2018 with Pataakha, she has experienced firsthand the stark differences between insiders and outsiders in the industry.

During an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Madan openly addressed the existence of nepotism, acknowledging that it’s present in Bollywood, just as it is in many other industries. However, she emphasized the advantage star kids enjoy. According to Madan, actors with family ties in the industry often get multiple chances to refine their craft, even if they don’t perform well in their debut. She noted, “They get two or three more films to learn and improve, with people praising their progress.”

For outsiders like herself, the reality is much harsher. Madan expressed that if someone without connections makes a mistake, they’re often dismissed without the chance for redemption. “If I make one mistake, I’m out. I won’t get two or three films to learn how to act,” she said. Outsiders are expected to arrive on set already fully prepared, with no room for growth or error. In contrast, insiders are given the benefit of the doubt, with many assuming they’ll improve in subsequent films.

Though she finds this unfair, Madan admits that nepotism is a reality not just in Bollywood but in many fields. While she accepts it as part of the industry, she refuses to overlook its impact on aspiring actors like herself.
