Priyamani Responds to Backlash Over ‘The Family Man’ Role: “I Must Have Done Something Right”
Facing criticism for her portrayal of Suchi, Priyamani addresses the intense audience reactions and the unresolved ‘Lonavala’ mystery in the Amazon Prime series.

Priyamani, known for her role as Suchitra (Suchi) in Amazon Prime’s ‘The Family Man’, has recently spoken out about the significant backlash she received following the show’s second season. Fans expressed strong disapproval of Suchi’s actions, particularly the implied infidelity involving her colleague Arvind, portrayed by Sharad Kelkar.
In an interview, Priyamani shared that the negative comments were frequent, with social media users criticizing her character’s decisions. She remarked, “Almost every day, whatever post I put out on social media, the first thing everybody says is, ‘you shouldn’t have betrayed Srikant’, ‘you shouldn’t have done this to Srikant’, ‘why did you stab Srikant in the back?'”

Despite the criticism, Priyamani chooses to view the reactions as a testament to her performance. She stated, “I laugh it off, but I feel like I must have done something right for them to comment like this.”
The show’s creators, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, have intentionally left the ‘Lonavala’ incident ambiguous, aiming for the audience to discover the truth alongside Srikant, played by Manoj Bajpayee. They believe revealing the details prematurely would be unfair to the character’s journey.
Co-director Suparn Varma highlighted the gendered nature of the audience’s scrutiny, noting that if a male character were in Suchi’s position, the reactions might have been different. He emphasized the importance of respecting a character’s privacy and autonomy.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming season of ‘The Family Man’, viewers remain eager to see how the narrative unfolds and whether lingering questions will be addressed.
