Peaky Blinders Movie Wraps Filming, Eyes Cinematic Release with Cillian Murphy Back as Tommy Shelby
Creator Steven Knight confirms an all-star cast and hints the film could hit theaters for fans to experience together.

The Shelby family saga isn’t over yet—Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has revealed new details about the highly-anticipated film, which could be heading to the big screen. Speaking to The Playlist, Knight confirmed the movie has wrapped production and teased an impressive lineup of stars, promising fans something “mind-blowingly good.”
“We finished filming on December 13th,” Knight shared. “We’ve got Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, and, of course, Cillian Murphy and Stephen Graham. I have to say, it’s mind-blowingly good.”
The Peaky Blinders series originally ran for six critically acclaimed seasons between 2013 and 2022, cementing its place as one of Netflix’s standout dramas. Rather than continuing with a seventh season, Knight opted to bring Tommy Shelby’s story to the silver screen. While Netflix is still the expected home for the film, Knight is hopeful it will also enjoy a theatrical release.

“I really want the Peaky fans, who have been such a big part of this journey, to be able to watch it together in a cinema,” Knight said. “This story deserves to be experienced as a community, not just alone at home. The energy of watching it on the big screen, all together, would be something special.”
Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby, the notorious Birmingham gangster and war hero at the center of the Peaky Blinders universe. The film, directed by Tom Harper (The Aeronauts, War & Peace), is described as a direct continuation of the series, picking up where the Shelby legacy left off.
Murphy has long expressed his loyalty to the project. In a BBC Radio interview on Desert Island Discs, he said, “I’ve always said if Steven Knight delivers a script, I’ll be there. He’s a phenomenal writer. If people want to see a 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I’m in.”
And there might be even more Peaky Blinders stories on the horizon. Knight hinted that this film isn’t necessarily the final chapter. “As long as there’s an appetite for it, and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?” he said.
For now, the Peaky Blinders movie is in post-production, and while no official release date has been confirmed, fans can expect a thrilling return to Birmingham’s gritty underworld—perhaps in theaters near them.
