Pankaj Tripathi Addresses Fan Campaign to Cast Him as Baburao in ‘Hera Pheri 3’
In an interview with Times of India, Tripathi clears the air about fan-driven speculation linking him to Paresh Rawal’s iconic role.

With Paresh Rawal officially stepping away from Hera Pheri 3, the internet has been flooded with speculation about who could possibly replace him as the unforgettable Baburao Ganpatrao Apte. And in the middle of this casting chaos, fans have zeroed in on one name: Pankaj Tripathi. Social media is bursting with memes, fan posters, and dream cast lists featuring Tripathi as the next Baburao. But is there any truth to this viral fantasy?
In a candid interview with The Times of India, Tripathi addressed the rumors head-on. “That I am playing Baburao? None at all! No truth. I have not even been approached to play the part. This is more wishful thinking of fans than fact,” he said. The actor, known for his nuanced performances, also revealed that he wouldn’t be comfortable taking over a role so deeply etched in pop culture.

“Even if I did get the offer, I don’t think I would want to step into the iconic part. People will compare unnecessarily. It would not be something I want,” he added.
Tripathi was nonetheless touched by the public sentiment. “I am flattered that fans feel I can fill those shoes. That character from Hera Pheri is iconic,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hera Pheri 3 has been stuck in creative limbo following Rawal’s exit—reportedly over dissatisfaction with the script and direction. With no official confirmation on who will replace him, speculation is bound to continue.
But for now, Pankaj Tripathi has firmly stepped away from the Baburao chatter.
