Olivia Rodrigo Announces Release Date and Details for Sophomore Album “Guts”

Olivia Rodrigo is set to release her highly anticipated sophomore album, “Guts,” on September 8 under Geffen Records, as revealed by the artist herself.

The announcement comes shortly after the news of her album’s first single, “Vampire,” scheduled to drop on June 30. Rodrigo’s debut album, “Sour,” propelled her to success, earning the former Disney star three Grammy awards and achieving quadruple platinum status. Notably, “Sour” held the record for the longest-running debut album of the 21st century on the Billboard 200 chart. Daniel Nigro, who collaborated with Rodrigo on “Sour,” returned to produce tracks for “Guts.”

Rodrigo shared her thoughts on the upcoming album, stating, “For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life. I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 — it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully, the album reflects that.”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from Rodrigo since the release of “Sour” in May 2021. Known for her unfiltered and candid songwriting, Rodrigo gained recognition with her emotionally revealing debut single, “Drivers License,” which she released at the age of 17. In an interview with Variety in August 2021, Rodrigo shared her motivation for expressing her emotions so openly.

“On ‘Sour,’ I definitely talked about my deepest, darkest secrets and insecurities — which is sort of strange to be like, ‘Here, you guys can have this. Anyone who wants to listen to it can listen to it,'” Rodrigo expressed. “But it’s really empowering when it comes out, and it’s been really awesome for me to see people resonate with that vulnerability and relate to it.”

Rodrigo accompanied the announcement with a post showcasing the album art, further building anticipation among her devoted fans.
