Olivia Colman and Dev Patel Unite for Unconventional Romance in ‘Wicker’

In a surprising twist, celebrated actors Olivia Colman and Dev Patel have joined forces to bring an unusual love story to the silver screen. The duo is set to star in a film that promises to be a unique and captivating tale of love and societal norms.
The official synopsis of the film reads: “In a coastal village on the outskirts of town, lives a Fisherwoman, played by Olivia Colman, who is known for being a bit smelly, single, and perpetually ridiculed by her small-minded neighbors. One fateful day, frustrated with the judgmental attitudes of her community, she takes a radical step and commissions the creation of a husband made entirely from wicker, portrayed by Dev Patel. In a town known for its conservative values, this unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy, and chaos.” Both Colman and Patel are no strangers to unconventional storytelling, having previously worked with visionary directors such as Yorgos Lanthimos and Wes Anderson.
This upcoming film is an adaptation of the short story “The Wicker Husband” written by Ursula Wills-Jones. Directing the project are Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, known for their previous work on “Save Yourselves!” – a sci-fi comedy that starred John Reynolds from “Search Party” and Sunita Mani from “GLOW.” “Save Yourselves!” garnered attention when it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020.
Dev Patel, on the other hand, has been keeping busy, having recently appeared in Roald Dahl short films directed by Wes Anderson and available on Netflix. Moreover, Patel is set to make his directorial debut with “Monkey Man,” an action-thriller in which he will also take the lead role. The cast of “Monkey Man” includes Sharlto Copley from “District 9,” and behind the scenes, they have the support of Basil Iwanyk, the producer of “John Wick.”
As of now, the release date for “Wicker” remains undisclosed, but the intriguing premise and the star-studded cast have already generated significant buzz in the world of cinema.
