Producer Namit Malhotra and DNEG Aim to Create a Global Cinematic Spectacle with Star-Studded Cast Including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash

Director Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious project, “Ramayana,” is poised to redefine Indian cinema with an unprecedented budget of ₹835 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film to date. The film, envisioned as a two-part series, is slated for release in 2026 and 2027.

Namit Malhotra, CEO of visual effects powerhouse DNEG and producer of “Ramayana,” has a distinguished track record with seven Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects on films like “Interstellar” and “Dune.” He emphasizes the global potential of “Ramayana,” aiming to present Indian storytelling on an international platform. Malhotra asserts, “It’s our responsibility to bring this story to the world, and we’re approaching it with utmost care and sensitivity.

The film boasts a stellar cast, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash taking on the role of Ravana. The ensemble also includes Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, Sheeba Chaddha, and Arun Govil. Malhotra highlights the universal appeal of the narrative, drawing parallels to global cinematic successes: “We aim to excite the world about Indian storytelling, much like films such as ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Forrest Gump’ have done.”

To ensure a visual extravaganza, the production has allocated significant resources, with reports indicating that the first part alone commands a budget of $100 million (approximately ₹835 crore). The post-production phase is projected to span 600 days, underscoring the commitment to delivering groundbreaking visuals.

“Ramayana” is a collaborative effort between Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for the highest-grossing Indian film “Dangal,” the project aspires to set new benchmarks in cinematic storytelling.

With its combination of a visionary director, an acclaimed production team, and a compelling narrative, “Ramayana” is poised to captivate audiences worldwide, offering a fresh perspective on a timeless epic.
