Nightcrawler vs. Mister Fantastic: Alan Cumming Teases Epic Showdown in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Alan Cumming hints at a high-stakes battle with Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic in Marvel’s upcoming multiverse epic, ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ set for release on May 1, 2026.

Marvel fans are abuzz after Alan Cumming, who portrayed Nightcrawler in 2003’s X2: X-Men United, hinted at his return to the role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent interview with Buzzfeed UK, Cumming shared that he was rehearsing fight scenes for the film, humorously noting, “I’m 60 years old. 23 years ago, I played that superhero… And now I’m back doing it.” He further teased, “I’m sort of learning these fights and I’m like, ‘What? Who am I fighting with?’ And they said, ‘You’re hitting Pedro Pascal against the head,’ or something.”

This revelation suggests a thrilling confrontation between Nightcrawler and Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, who is set to debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps before joining the ensemble in Avengers: Doomsday. The film promises to be a multiverse-spanning event, bringing together heroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, known for their work on previous Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday boasts a star-studded cast including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), and newcomers like Vanessa Kirby (The Invisible Woman) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing). Notably, Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU, not as Iron Man, but as the formidable villain Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and is poised to be a pivotal installment in Marvel’s Phase Six, setting the stage for the subsequent film, Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release on May 7, 2027.
