Amazon MGM Announces Star of Long-Awaited Live-Action Adaptation

Following his success in Prime Video rom-coms *The Idea of You* and *Red, White & Royal Blue*, Nicholas Galitzine has been chosen to star as He-Man in the live-action *Masters of the Universe* movie. This project, produced by Amazon MGM and Mattel Films, marks a significant continuation of Galitzine’s collaboration with the studio.
While the plot details remain confidential, the film will be directed by Travis Knight with a script by Chris Butler. Previous drafts were penned by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. The movie is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026.
The *Masters of the Universe* franchise, launched by Mattel in 1982, centers on the epic struggle between He-Man (Prince Adam of Eternia) and the villainous Skeletor. It first captivated audiences with a line of action figures, followed by the animated series *He-Man and the Masters of the Universe* in 1983. The franchise has since expanded into various media, including subsequent TV shows and films, and remains popular in toys and video games.

Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about the project: “We’re thrilled to bring the beloved *Masters of the Universe* to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man. Joining forces with director Travis Knight, Mattel, and Escape Artists, this reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”
Robbie Brenner, President of Mattel Films, echoed the enthusiasm: “Mattel Films is proud to work with Amazon and team up again with the incredible Courtenay Valenti to bring *Masters of the Universe* to the big screen. We are thrilled to be producing alongside the highly respected and prolific Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, with the visionary Travis Knight, and the charismatic and talented Nicholas Galitzine, our Prince Adam/He-Man!”
Galitzine shared his excitement on Instagram, stating, “It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humor, and heroism. I cannot wait to get started.”
Galitzine’s recent rise to fame includes his role opposite Anne Hathaway in *The Idea of You*, which became Prime Video’s top rom-com debut with nearly 50 million viewers in its first two weeks. He also starred in Starz’s historical drama *Mary & George* with Julianne Moore and Tony Curran, and in
