Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced a targeted debut year of 2026 for the highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, marking a significant milestone in the franchise’s expansive universe.
During the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, David Zaslav unveiled the eagerly awaited date, underscoring the immense anticipation surrounding the project. “We’ve consistently expressed our enthusiasm for Harry Potter,” he remarked, elucidating WBD’s overarching franchise strategy. “It’s been over a dozen years since the last film release.”
Zaslav further disclosed his recent meeting with J.K. Rowling, the visionary behind the magical world of Harry Potter, during a trip to London. “Just a few weeks ago, Casey [HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys], Channing [WBD TV chief Channing Dungey], and I had the privilege of spending quality time with J.K. and her team,” he shared. “The mutual excitement to revitalize this beloved franchise was palpable. Our discussions were incredibly fruitful, and we’re brimming with anticipation for what lies ahead. We’re eager to unveil a decade’s worth of fresh narratives to fans worldwide on Max.”
The series’ development traces back to 2021, with Warner Bros. Discovery greenlighting the project last year. The overarching plan involves crafting seasons inspired by all the books, with a timeline stretching across a decade, promising an immersive journey through the magical realm of Harry Potter for years to come.
