Netflix’s ‘The Sandman’ to Conclude with Second Season Amidst Controversy
The adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed comic series will end in 2025, following sexual misconduct allegations against the author.

Netflix has announced that its adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” will conclude with the upcoming second season, scheduled for release in 2025. The series, which debuted in August 2022, stars Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, the ruler of the dream world. Showrunner Allan Heinberg explained that the decision to end the series was based on the limited remaining source material, stating, “We knew we only had enough story for one more season.”

This announcement comes in the wake of multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Gaiman, which he has denied. The controversy has led to significant professional repercussions for the author, including being dropped by his publisher, Dark Horse Comics, and the halting of other adaptations of his work.

Despite the allegations, Netflix confirmed that the release plan for Season 2 remains unchanged, with episodes set to premiere in 2025. The upcoming season will follow the “Season of Mists” storyline from Gaiman’s comics, in which Lucifer abdicates control of Hell, presenting Morpheus with the key to its gates.
Returning cast members include Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, and Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne. New additions to the cast are Esmé Creed-Miles as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as “The Prodigal.”
The conclusion of “The Sandman” marks the end of Netflix’s adaptation of Gaiman’s seminal comic series, which has been both a critical and commercial success. As fans anticipate the final season, the impact of the surrounding controversies on Gaiman’s legacy and future projects remains to be seen.
