Netflix Explores Spinoff for Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester Character from Hit Series “Wednesday”

Netflix is actively working on expanding its successful “Wednesday” series into a franchise, with early development underway for a spinoff centered around Fred Armisen’s memorable character, Uncle Fester, according to sources confirmed by Deadline.
The discussions surrounding the spinoff coincide with the preparations for Season 2 of “Wednesday,” a modern reimagining of The Addams Family featuring Jenna Ortega in the lead role. The series, which premiered in November 2022, achieved both critical acclaim and widespread popularity, becoming Netflix’s most-watched English-language series with an impressive 252.1 million views. This success nearly doubled the viewership of the next most popular TV season on the streaming platform.
Fred Armisen made a memorable guest appearance as Uncle Fester in one episode of the first season of “Wednesday.” His character, the brother of Wednesday’s father Gomez Addams (Luis Guzman), showcased his unique ability to generate electricity to revive Thing.
The ensemble cast of Season 1 included Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Georgie Farmer, Naomi J. Ogawa, Christina Ricci, and Moosa Mostafa. Catherine Zeta-Jones made recurring appearances as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia.
The coming-of-age comedy, created by Al Gough and Miles Millar of Smallville fame and directed/executive produced by Tim Burton, has garnered widespread attention. Season 2, slated to start production in late April and set in Ireland, promises further exploration of the Addams family universe. Gough and Millar have hinted at introducing more family members, potentially laying the groundwork for additional spinoffs. Meanwhile, Jenna Ortega, who takes on a producer role for Season 2, suggests a shift towards a stronger emphasis on horror rather than teen romance.
Bloomberg was the first to report the potential spinoff news, marking another exciting chapter in the ever-expanding world of “Wednesday.”
