Neil Nitin Mukesh to Chronicle Grandfather Mukesh’s Life in Upcoming Biopic

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh has announced plans to produce a biopic on his grandfather, the iconic playback singer Mukesh. Having lost his grandfather at the age of five, Neil has relied on stories from his father, singer Nitin Mukesh, and family memorabilia to understand Mukesh’s legacy. He has been working on the script for the past two years, delving into family archives and personal anecdotes to craft an authentic narrative .

Neil is in discussions with director Abhishek Sharma, known for films like “Parmanu” and “Tere Bin Laden,” to helm the project. The two previously collaborated on the musical drama series “Hai Junoon! Dream. Dare. Dominate,” which premiered on JioHotstar in May 2025 .

When asked about portraying his grandfather on screen, Neil expressed a strong personal connection to the role, stating, “I don’t think there can be a better Mukesh than me. Neil Nitin Mukesh is Mukesh. I know him better than anyone else.” However, he also acknowledged the practical considerations of casting and box office appeal in the film industry .

The biopic aims to depict Mukesh’s journey from humble beginnings as the son of a railway clerk to becoming one of Bollywood’s most beloved singers. With a script in hand and potential collaborators on board, Neil and his team are currently seeking producers and financiers to bring the project to fruition .

As the project progresses, Neil hopes to honor his grandfather’s legacy and share his inspiring story with a new generation of audiences.
