Mark Ruffalo’s Slip-Up Sparks Marvel Movie Misunderstanding

Mark Ruffalo has once again found himself in the spotlight, this time stirring up confusion regarding his involvement in Marvel’s upcoming projects.
At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Sunday, while engaging in a Q&A session about his career, the acclaimed actor, recently nominated for an Oscar, appeared to confirm his return as the Hulk in Marvel’s “Captain America: Brave New World.” Responding to moderator Anne Thompson’s inquiry about his next appearance in the 2025 feature, Ruffalo seemingly affirmed with a nod, followed by a casual “Yeah.”
Thompson, probing further, questioned Ruffalo’s authorization to divulge such details, to which he replied affirmatively, expressing enthusiasm with, “It’s going to be great!”
However, conflicting reports swiftly emerged, clarifying that Ruffalo had misspoken. It appears he mistakenly thought “Brave New World” was among Marvel’s upcoming films and inadvertently implied his participation.
Despite the clarification, Ruffalo’s brief affirmation set social media ablaze, particularly fueling speculation surrounding Harrison Ford’s potential transformation into the Red Hulk. Ford, cast as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross opposite Anthony Mackie’s titular superhero, remained cryptic on the matter, having previously dismissed queries about the character.
During the SBIFF Q&A, Ruffalo elaborated on his character’s journey, recounting his pitch to Marvel’s Kevin Feige for a standalone Hulk movie. He outlined his vision of evolving the Hulk and Bruce Banner from adversaries to a unified persona, a concept embraced by Feige over multiple films. However, Ruffalo swiftly dispelled any hopes of a standalone Hulk movie, much to the audience’s disappointment.
This recent misunderstanding adds another chapter to Ruffalo’s Marvel-related mishaps, including previous instances of inadvertently revealing plot details of major films. From spoiling the ending of “Avengers: Infinity War” to inadvertently live-streaming segments of “Thor: Ragnarok” and accidentally revealing the conclusion of “Avengers: Endgame,” Ruffalo has unwittingly solidified his reputation for PR gaffes within the Marvel universe.
