Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi to Star in Emerald Fennell’s Adaptation of Wuthering Heights

The Oscar-winning director teams up with LuckyChap Entertainment for a fresh take on Emily Brontë’s classic, with filming set to begin in the UK.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are confirmed to lead Emerald Fennell’s upcoming feature adaptation of Wuthering Heights, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fennell, who is both writing and directing the film, will bring Emily Brontë’s timeless tale to life with production slated to start in the UK later this year. The project is currently in preproduction.

Robbie is set to play the iconic role of Catherine Earnshaw, while Elordi will step into the brooding shoes of Heathcliff. Brontë’s 1847 novel follows the tumultuous and intense relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff, rooted in passion and vengeance, all while set against the dramatic backdrop of the Yorkshire moors.

This marks Fennell’s third collaboration with LuckyChap Entertainment, the production company co-founded by Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara. LuckyChap previously produced Fennell’s critically acclaimed films Promising Young Woman (2020) and Saltburn (2023). Fennell earned an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman, which was also nominated for five Academy Awards.

Robbie, fresh off her success from 2023’s box office hit Barbie, will next appear alongside Colin Farrell in Kogonada’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, set to be released by Sony Pictures in spring 2025.

Elordi, best known for his work in Euphoria and Saltburn, has an exciting lineup ahead, including roles in the Prime Video series The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix production Frankenstein.

Wuthering Heights has been adapted numerous times for the screen, with notable versions including the 1939 classic starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon, and more recent adaptations such as the 2009 ITV miniseries with Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley, and the 2011 film featuring Kaya Scodelario and James Howson.

As fans eagerly anticipate this fresh interpretation of Brontë’s masterpiece, the combination of Fennell’s direction and Robbie and Elordi’s powerful star presence promises to deliver a captivating retelling of the beloved novel.
