Yash Raj Films (YRF) has officially announced the third installment of its acclaimed Mardaani franchise, with Rani Mukerji reprising her iconic role as the fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy. Production is set to begin in April 2025, and fans can gear up for a gripping thriller that Mukerji describes as “dark, deadly, and brutal.”

In a bold move, YRF has brought on new creative minds to breathe fresh life into the franchise. Aayush Gupta, celebrated for penning the critically acclaimed series The Railway Men, will write the screenplay. Meanwhile, Abhiraj Minawala, who has worked as an associate director on blockbusters like Band Baaja Baaraat, Sultan, and Tiger 3, will take the helm as director. Minawala is also simultaneously working on the highly anticipated War 2.

This fresh team aims to elevate the franchise, which last hit the screens in 2019 with Mardaani 2. YRF’s strategic shift toward nurturing emerging talent ensures a dynamic and modern perspective for the beloved series.

Rani Mukerji shared her excitement about stepping back into the role of Shivani Shivaji Roy, a character celebrated for her tenacity and unwavering sense of justice. “I’m thrilled to announce that we are starting shooting of Mardaani 3 in April 2025,” Mukerji revealed.
