Malcolm in the Middle Returns: A Reunion of Chaos and Comedy
Disney+ Announces Four-Episode Revival Featuring Original Stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek

The beloved sitcom Malcolm in the Middle is making its long-awaited comeback. Disney+ has greenlit a short-run revival featuring the original stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek, with series creator Linwood Boomer returning as writer and executive producer. The four-episode special promises to recapture the magic of the hilariously dysfunctional family that captured hearts for over a decade.
“Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart, and relatability,” said Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television. “We’re thrilled to welcome back the original cast and creative team to deliver new episodes filled with the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises to remind us why this show remains timeless.”
The series originally premiered on Fox in January 2000 and ran for seven seasons, chronicling the life of Malcolm, a genius middle child in a chaotic family. Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek played his eccentric parents, Hal and Lois, while Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Erik Per Sullivan starred as his brothers. Over its run, Malcolm in the Middle won seven Emmy Awards, with nominations for Muniz, Kaczmarek, and Cranston.
Frankie Muniz, who has pursued a professional racing career in recent years, is excited about the reunion. Despite stepping away from acting to focus on racing, Muniz maintains close ties with his on-screen dad, Bryan Cranston. “He checks in on me every couple of weeks,” Muniz shared. “He’s such an inspiration and has always supported me, whether it’s at races or concerts with my band. I hope to inspire others the way he has inspired me.”
Karey Burke, President of 20th Television, emphasized the show’s impact. “Malcolm in the Middle redefined the television comedy landscape when it premiered over two decades ago. Reuniting this iconic cast under Linwood Boomer’s creative vision feels like the perfect way to revisit such an influential series.”
Linwood Boomer will lead the revival alongside a stellar team of executive producers, including Cranston, Tracy Katsky, Gail Berman, Ken Kwapis, and the team at New Regency. Disney+ and Hulu will continue streaming the original series, giving fans old and new the chance to revisit the show ahead of its revival.
The premiere date for the revival has yet to be announced, but one thing is certain — Malcolm in the Middle is ready to take fans back to the hilariously chaotic world that made it a household name.
