Mahesh Bhatt Praises Ranbir’s Family Values, Shares Alia’s Playful Dig at His Grandfather Role

The veteran filmmaker reflects on Alia’s career setback, Ranbir’s grounded nature, and a lighthearted family moment with baby Raha

Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has once again spoken candidly about family, life lessons, and the film world. In a recent interaction, he revealed how his conversations with son-in-law Ranbir Kapoor are rarely about movies, but more about home and family. Bhatt described Ranbir as deeply rooted, grounded, and family-oriented, qualities he believes are rare in the glamour of showbiz. He also praised Ranbir’s ability to listen more than he speaks, calling it the mark of a fine actor.

On a lighter note, Bhatt shared a humorous memory involving Alia and his role as grandfather to little Raha. When he mentioned that he would talk to Raha in Hindi, Alia quipped that this might be his “only contribution” to her life — before quickly correcting herself, saying it would in fact be a “great contribution.” Bhatt also revealed how he once advised Alia about the importance of punctuality, telling her to always reach five minutes early as a gesture of respect.

Reflecting on Alia’s professional journey, Bhatt admitted that the failure of Shaandaar shook her confidence after a streak of successes. He pointed out that such setbacks are reminders of human vulnerability, something even legends like Raj Kapoor experienced. For Bhatt, both stardom and failure are part of the same journey, teaching lessons of humility that no one in the industry can escape.
