Madonna Biopic Back on Track: Titled “Who’s That Girl”
Pop Icon Directing and Starring in Rebooted Film Project

Madonna is back in the director’s chair, and this time she’s bringing a classic song title to the big screen. The Queen of Pop has revealed she’s restarting work on her biopic, now titled “Who’s That Girl” after her hit song and film from 1987.
Social media posts show Madonna editing a script with the caption “I Need A-lot of Bandz to make this………..OKAY. (Story of my life),” hinting at the film’s ambitious nature. The script also credits “Madonna and ECW” as the writers, suggesting a significant rewrite from the previous draft.
This news comes nearly a year and a half after the project stalled in January 2023. Originally planned for Universal Pictures, the biopic was set to be directed by Madonna herself, with a script by Diablo Cody and Erin Cressida Wilson. Julia Garner, chosen by Madonna for her dancing and singing talent, was slated to play the pop icon.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Garner remains attached to the project under its new title. The biopic’s delay coincided with Madonna’s health struggles. A serious bacterial infection in June 2023 forced her to postpone her Celebration Tour. After recovering, she successfully completed the tour with stops around the globe.
