Lucky Baskhar Sets Unprecedented Netflix Record for South Indian Cinema

Dulquer Salmaan’s crime thriller trends for 13 consecutive weeks; actor unveils first look of upcoming film “Kaantha”

“Lucky Baskhar,” featuring Dulquer Salmaan, has made history as the first South Indian film to trend on Netflix for 13 straight weeks since its streaming debut in November 2024. The filmmakers announced this milestone on social media platform X this Wednesday. Directed by Venky Atluri, the movie premiered in theaters on October 31, 2024, and narrates the tale of a middle-class man entangled in debt who resorts to scams for quick financial gains. The ensemble cast includes Dulquer Salmaan and Meenakshi Chaudhary.

Sithara Entertainments, one of the production houses behind the film, expressed gratitude to the audience, stating, “#LuckyBhaskar’s mind game is spot on in the digital arena too. The film is a collaborative production by Fortune Four Cinema, Srikara Studios, and Sithara Entertainments. Following the success of “Lucky Baskhar,” Dulquer Salmaan is set to star in “Kaantha,” a period drama set in 1950s Madras. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the film also features Bhagyashri Borse and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. “Kaantha” is jointly produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media. The first look of “Kaantha” was unveiled as Dulquer celebrated his 13th anniversary in the film industry.

The technical crew for “Kaantha” includes Spanish cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Lewellyn Anthony Gonsalves, and music composer Jhanu Chanthar. The film is slated for release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi.
