Lionsgate Secures Major Deal for “The Crow” Reboot Featuring Star-Studded Cast

According To Deadline Lionsgate has recently clinched an eight-figure deal for the domestic rights to the highly anticipated reboot of “The Crow.”

This fresh take on the cult classic from 1994, originally made famous by the late Brandon Lee, is set to be led by a stellar cast including Bill Skarsgård (known for “It”), the acclaimed singer-songwriter FKA twigs (from “Honeyboy”), and Danny Huston (famous for “Succession”). The visionary director Rupert Sanders, renowned for “Snow White and the Huntsman,” will helm this modern reimagination.

For those unfamiliar with the iconic storyline, “The Crow” revolves around a man who is brutally murdered and then resurrected as an avenger, driven by a thirst for vengeance for both his own death and the tragic loss of his fiancée. Both the original and the upcoming reboot draw inspiration from the gothic character created, written, and illustrated by James O’Barr in his graphic novel.

The deal for the domestic rights was expertly negotiated by CAA Media Finance, with Lionsgate represented by John Biondo. The agreement was officially sealed late Wednesday night, coinciding with the commencement of the TIFF festival and market. Film enthusiasts can expect the reboot to hit theaters next year.

Crafted by Oscar-nominated writer Zach Baylin (“King Richard”) and Will Schneider, the screenplay promises an engaging narrative. Alongside the leading trio, the cast boasts talent like Laura Birn (“Foundation”), Sami Bouajila (“A Son”), and Jordan Bolger (“The Woman King”).

Producing this exciting project are Victor Hadida (“Resident Evil”), Molly Hassell (“Terminal”), John Jencks (“Honest Thief”), the late Samuel Hadida (“True Romance”), and the late Edward R. Pressman (“The Crow”). The production is a collaborative effort between Davis Films, Hassell Free Productions, Electric Shadow Company, and Pressman Film, currently under the stewardship of Sam Pressman.

The film’s captivating visuals were brought to life through shooting on location in Prague and Munich, setting the stage for an international sales endeavor managed by FilmNation, which has already secured a multitude of deals.

Charlotte Koh, Lionsgate’s EVP of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, expressed their excitement, stating, “We appreciate what the Crow character and original movie mean to legions of fans and believe this new film will offer audiences an authentic and visceral reinterpretation of its emotional power and mythology.” She will be overseeing the project for the indie-major.

The producers also shared their enthusiasm, saying, “The original film left an indelible mark on our culture that lives on. We are thrilled to bring a new adaptation for today’s audiences that respects this legacy. Rupert has masterfully brought new dimensions to create a contemporary universe for this timeless saga of undying love, and we can’t wait to share this vision with film audiences.”
