Lionsgate Expands John Wick Universe with New Series

John Wick: Under The High Table” to Continue Franchise’s Legacy with New and Returning Characters

Lionsgate is set to further expand its successful John Wick universe with the new action series “John Wick: Under The High Table.” This exciting series is executive produced by Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski, the star and director of the billion-dollar film franchise, respectively. Stahelski will also direct the pilot episode, Deadline reports.

The series, penned by “The Old Man” co-creator Robert Levine, picks up immediately after the events of “John Wick: Chapter 4.” With John Wick having left the High Table in turmoil, a mix of new characters will emerge, seeking to make their mark, while familiar faces remain loyal to the old ways. The show promises to blend new and established characters, propelling the Wick universe into a new era—a formula that proved successful with Lionsgate’s prequel series “The Continental: From the World of John Wick,” one of Peacock’s top original series of 2023.

Stahelski, who signed a deal with Lionsgate in January to oversee the John Wick franchise across film, TV, and other media, is producing “John Wick: Under The High Table” through his company, 87Eleven Entertainment. Levine will serve as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Reeves, as well as Thunder Road’s Erica Lee and Basil Iwanyk, who also produce the films.

Though Reeves will not act in the series, he remains deeply involved as an executive producer. The project is already attracting significant interest from various parties, setting up a competitive bidding situation.

“John Wick: Chapter 4” ended with John (Reeves) and fellow assassin Caine (Donnie Yen) earning their freedom from the High Table, Winston (Ian McShane) being reinstated as the manager of the rebuilt New York Continental, and John severely injured after killing the Marquis (Bill Skarsgård). The ambiguous ending leaves John’s fate uncertain, with a post-credits scene hinting at a confrontation between Caine and Akira (Rina Sawayama), who seeks revenge for her father’s death.

This scene may tease a spinoff centered on Caine, which is reportedly in development at Lionsgate. Additionally, the studio is working on another spinoff film, “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas, set between the third and fourth John Wick movies.

A fifth John Wick film is also in the works, with sources indicating that “John Wick: Under The High Table” will not interfere with these plans. Lionsgate has yet to comment on the series.
