Lily-Rose Depp Faces Critics Head-On: “I’m Here to Prove Them Wrong”
The rising star opens up about carving her path in Hollywood, overcoming imposter syndrome, and silencing the doubters ahead of her role in Nosferatu
Lily-Rose Depp isn’t fazed by critics rooting for her to fail. Instead, she sees it as motivation to prove her worth in Hollywood.
The actress, daughter of legendary actor-musician Johnny Depp and French model-actress Vanessa Paradis, recently shared her journey with Vanity Fair. Despite her famous lineage, Lily-Rose is determined to stand on her own, even under the intense scrutiny of the public eye.
“I feel like people have been ready to see me fail since I was a kid,” she admitted. “That just makes me want to work harder. Not in a vindictive way, but as fuel for my fire. I want people to see that I’m here to work hard—nothing more, nothing less. Getting to work with Rob Eggers on Nosferatu was a dream come true. He’s been on my bucket list, and I didn’t think it would happen this early in my career.”
The Idol star added that navigating Hollywood as the child of two iconic artists has shaped her outlook.
“Both my parents are incredible artists. I grew up respecting their craft deeply. But finding my own identity when people assume you’re here for the wrong reasons has been a challenge. You can either cry about it or work harder. For me, it’s always been the latter.”
Despite external pressures, Lily-Rose remains steadfast in her love for acting. “If people still want to talk or see me in a certain way, that’s not my problem. I know why I’m here, and it’s for the work.”
Looking ahead to her role as Ellen Hutter in Nosferatu, releasing December 25 alongside Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose reflected on battling imposter syndrome.
“The hardest part was overcoming the feeling of, ‘Why me? Why do they think I can do this?’ It’s taken time, but I’ve learned to trust that I’m here for a reason. Humility is crucial in this business, and I never want to lose that beginner’s mindset. There’s always more to learn.”
Lily-Rose Depp may have grown up in the spotlight, but she’s determined to make it her own. With her resilience and dedication, she’s ready to prove that she’s here to stay.
